Optimum Window Mfg. Corp.
  • Thermally broken steel windows
  • METAL BOWS TO CLASSIC BEAUTY
  • As a result of research and in-depth studies, 2009 is seeing the introduction of an important new product for the architectural community and in particular for restoration projects.
  • It is called the Flex OS2 series, it is a thermally broken system designed for the production of windows and doors. The units can be produced in a variety of metals such as Galvanized Steel, Cor-Ten Steel, Stainless Steel, and Bronze. The sightlines on the new series are 1 11/16” (46 mm)_at the jambs and 2 1/2” (64 mm) at the meeting rail of a french casement. The series offers aesthetic features that are ideal for restoration and repair work: double doors and windows with reduced visible sections consequently providing  larger glazed areas. Highly refined and perfect for restoring the great historical architectural heritage of the United States, the Flex OS2 series achieves high performance in terms of energy savings and sound insulation in compliance with today’s requirements.

Changing the World with Steel
  • Optimum Window is today the leading U.S. manufacturer of cold rolled metal Window & Door frame systems in Galvanized Steel, Stainless Steel, Cor-Ten Steel and Bronze.
  • This variety of metal options offers designers and architects limitless design choices.
4
What is cold rolled metal?
  • Cold rolled metal is the process in which coil stock is manipulated through a series of rolls (dies) to form a particular shape.
  • This process has been used for over 100 years on landmark buildings such as the Empire State & Chrysler buildings in NYC.
  • Today the forming of metal has expanded beyond steel and is now used in a variety of industries.
5
General information
  • Optimum Window was founded in 1984.

COLD ROLLED STEEL

"THE MATERIAL"
  • THE MATERIAL:
  • Steel is the name given to an iron alloy containing carbon. Its properties
  • and uses are countless; without steel in large quantities and at low costs
  • the Industrial Revolution would have been impossible. Simple and tough,
  • perfect for everyday life, steel enjoys a great tradition and has always
  • played an irreplaceable role in the building sector. Most of all its far greater
  • resistance to external stress than any of the other materials has
  • allowed architects and designers to create buildings with more glass and
  • therefore light, thanks to the slimmer yet sturdier window and door frames.

Cor-Ten Steel:

19
"ADVANTAGES OF COR-TEN STEEL"
  • ADVANTAGES OF COR-TEN STEEL
  • Very high structural resistance, resolves many design requirements, modulus of elasticity is 3 times greater than that of aluminum and absolute maintenance of shape over the years.
  • Thermal conductivity is 4 times less than aluminum, steel 55W/MK / aluminum is 220 W/MK.
  • Reduced coefficient of expansion, close to that of concrete and twice below that of aluminum.
  • High aesthetic value in terms of uniqueness and exclusivity.
  • 10 times more resistant to corrosion than normal steel.
  • Low maintenance costs.
  • Natural and essentially ecological material, 100% recyclable.

20
COLD ROLLED BRONZE
  • The look of old bronze, and the warm shining color is the ideal
  • solution both in the restoration of old buildings, where it blends in
  • perfectly with the architecture and materials of our architectural
  • heritage, while embellishing a modern structure.

What is Hot Rolled Steel ?
24
Reliant series (Hot rolled steel)
25
Reliant series (Hot rolled steel)
  • Advantages:
  • Narrow sightlines: No other quality is more readily associated with steel windows and doors than their narrow sightlines. Architects have incorporated this attribute in every sort of building over hundreds of years, and have designed the gracefulness of steel windows into countless architectural styles.
  • Strength: Ironically, the minimal aspect of steel windows and doors is derived from the incredibly massive strength of the material. The aesthetic virtues achieved by use of steel cannot be duplicated in aluminum, wood or vinyl alternatives. The look of steel windows and doors is not simply distinctive, it is unique.
26
Hot Rolled vs. Cold Rolled Steel
  • Cold Rolled - Flex
    • Formed hollows from 16+ gauge flat steel.
      • 1” IGU
  • Hot Rolled - Reliant
    • Solid Steel rolled from hot billet.
      • 1 1/8” IGU
27
Finish Option
  • What is E-Coat
    • Developed 40+ years ago by PPG specifically as a primer for steel automobile frame applications. The product objective being a 200 year life for steel finishes.
    • Over 95% of all auto frames use this lead-free electrodeposition dip primer process that was designed to provide protection for the steel components.
    • This product molecularly bonds to the steel fighting corrosion much better than galvanizing which will begin to oxidize and pull away from steel when “injured”.
    • Salt fog tests (ASTM D1654) have now shown this finish to be over 10x better than a galvanized pre-treatment.
28
Performance & Quality
  • 100% coverage of Complex Parts
  • Uniform Film Thickness
  • Benchmark Corrosion Protection
  • Superior Edge Coverage
  • One or Two-Coat Applications To Optimize Performance
